In a move that can best be described as novel, coupled with a determination to set a new tradition among tertiary institutions, graduands of Olabisi Onabanjo University were issued with both their certificates and transcripts same day of their graduation.
This was their experience at this year’s 34th Convocation ceremonies of the institution, which took place at the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Hall recently.
Many of the graduands were seen beaming with smiles, their faces filled with pride and a sense of accomplishment at being able to hold, the physical evidence of their hard work and labour which the certificates represent.
The Prof. Ayodeji Johnson Agboola led management team have consistently made efforts to alleviate the sufferings students and the alumni go through when they request for their transcripts.
Also at the ceremony, it emerged that the overall Best Graduating Student in the 2023/2024 academic session, is Miss Dauda Aishat Anuoluwapo, 19 year old, from the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, who had a Cumulative Grade Point Aggregate (CGPA) of 4.87. She received a total prize of N3m from the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun. Other outstanding students who made FIRST class, 115 in number, also received a prize of N.5m from the governor.
The main highlight of the ceremony was the Convocation Lecture titled Technical and Educational Development in Nigeria: The History, The Treasures and The Future, delivered by the Guest Speaker, Arch. Sunday Sylva YogoEchono, OOU Ag. Executive Secretary (TETFUND) while a globally acclaimed consultant ophthalmic surgeon, the Chief Medical Director, Eye Foundation Hospital Group, Dr. Adekunle Olubola Hassan was honoured with the conferment of Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science.
