The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has dissociated itself from a news publication claiming it has directed that gas supply to power generating companies (GENCOS) be halted and instructed wholesale gas supplies to stop further supply of gas to companies due to failure in payment obligations.
In a press release signed by the public affairs unit of NMDPRA, the authority states categorically that the said report is false and unfounded. It explained that the misleading information has no bearing on the information shared at a recent stakeholders engagement held in Lagos between the Authority, the OPTS, IPPG, and other stakeholders in the oil and gas industry.
The release stated that the purpose of the engagement was to sensitise stakeholders on the requirements, opportunities and benefits associated with the implementation of the wholesale supply license as provided by sections 142 and 197 of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).It noted that the meeting was a follow-up to the earlier stakeholder engagement held in the NMDPRA Corporate HQ Office in Abuja on November 27th 2024.
The Authority reassures all its stakeholders and the general public to disregard the said publication as entirely false and misleading with a promise that all efforts are on gear to ensure that the supply and distribution of gas and petroleum products to end users is seamless and unabated throughout the festive season and all through the coming year 2025.
